Phuket Thailand

phuket-thailand Phuket is a Thai island and a province of Thailand, which was once known as Talang. The province is found in the south of Thailand and it has as neighbors the provinces of Krabi and Phang Nga, though not on land, since this is an island.

This is the biggest island of Thailand, occupying a total area which is similar to that of Singapore. A bridge is used for the connection between the island and mainland Thailand. It can be found in Andaman Sea, to the west of Thailand. In the past, its wealth came mainly from rubber and tin and it has a colorful and rich history, being one of the best trading routes between China and India. Many traders of English, Dutch, French or Portuguese origin wrote down about this island in their ship logs. These days, the wealth of the island comes from the tourists which visit it.

The terrain of the island is mountainous for the most partm with a range which goes from the south to the north of the island. The Phuket mountains can be found at the south part of this mountain range, that is 440 km long, starting from Kra Isthmus. Twelve Canes is the island’s highest elevation, with a height of 529 m.

According to the estimations, this island has around 543 sq. km, located 862 km away from Bangkok. The island has a length of 48 km, with a width of 21 km.

What is unusual about the topology of the island is that over two thirds of its surface has mountains on it, the rest being plains, which can be found to the east and center of the island. There aren’t any big rivers on the island, though one can find a number of creeks here ( a total of 9 can be found).
