Two Heroines Monument

This is a monument that is famous and it’s located in Amphoe Thalang. It represents Thao Sisunthon and Thao Thepkasattri, two heroines which helped repel the Burmese invaders in 1785 by rallying the locals. Since the governor of the island died recently, his wife took care of the organization of the defense of the island. She did it with the help of her sister, assembling forces and disguising women to look as male soldiers, so the invaders were fooled and though they were facing large numbers of troops. After a siege that took one month, the invaders retreated.

Thalang National Museum

This one can be found in the vicinity of the Two Heroines and it was established in 1985, 200 years after the Thalang War. This museum offers you an exhibition which shows you how life was in the old Phuket, as well as a number of remains and old artifacts, which were found on the island’s coast. You will also find some materials which were used during the war they had with the Burmese invaders. The museum is open on a daily basis and the price of the ticket is 30 baht.

Hat Patong

This is the best developed beach from Phuket and it’s 15 km away from the city. Here you will find plenty of options when it comes to recreation, shopping, sports and leisure, and it has a crescent bay that is 3 km long. Some of the activities which you can try are swimming, sunbathing, sailing, snorkeling and windsurfing. The Patong beach is also known as having a great nightlife and its seafood restaurants have a very good reputation.

One other well known beach is Hat Karon, which is located around 20 km away from the town.
